Puerto Rico beat Trinidad & Tobago in three sets
WINNIPEG, Canada, September 21, 2007.-
While there is certainly some lingering disappointment by Puerto
Rico, they know that the need to come into this match prepared and
ready to get back on track. Every match at this event has
significance, and while Puerto Rico would still like to finish in
5th,
Trinidad & Tobago have their own goals and objectives to reach in
this match and tomorrows.
This was somewhat of an unfair match up. Puerto Rico immediately
showed their dominance jumping to a 5-0 lead and up 8-2 at the
time out. Trinidad was never really in contention after that as
Puerto Rico took set one 25-11.
Sets two and three where much of the same thing. Although Trinidad
and Tobago was showing great effort and never quit, they were just
unable to match Puerto Rico today and they fell in the final two
sets 25-10, 25-15.
Post Match Quotes:
Team Puerto Rico
Aurea Cruz- Captain
“Our plan today was to come out strong and finish the tournament
strong. We have one more match tomorrow and we will go out to win
and finish with a strong 5ht place finish.”
Juan Nunez- Head Coach
“Like our captain said, it is important for us to finish this
tournament strong even though we are not able to obtain the goal
that we came here with. Tomorrow we will face Mexico and I will
ask my players to be mentally prepared for this match as it is
important to finish in 5th
place.”
Team Trinidad and Tobago
Renele Forde – Captain
“Today’s game was okay but it could have been better. It still was
not as good as we played against the USA and Dominican Republic.
We could have fought harder. We started of slow the first set but
gained a little momentum, but it still was not enough. We believe
that we can win against Costa Rica, as their level is similar to
ours. We go our with high spirits and give them a good fight.”
Francisco Cruz - Head Coach
“My team still has the problems that are normal at this stage.
They are a young team in the process of developing. You see them
sometimes, they can hit and they can block, they do almost
everything perfect. Suddenly they lose concentration and they
begin to struggle. However this is normal at this stage, they are
young with very little experience and must continue working to
over come that.”
